| Tom was raised, thanks to a Scottish father, in Scottish country dancing long before he
discovered that the English did it too! 'When I first came across English dancing, at
a joint Anglo-Scottish evening, I though the English dancing was pretty boring.
Later I discovered it was just the way that some English dance clubs (and many others)
did it. Thanks to Charlie Bate and Bob Cann - and to Barbara - I discovered
that English social dancing could be fun!' As a result, Tom has developed a
lively approach to calling which is concerned with ensuring that people have an
enjoyable time whether or not they want to do it 'by the book'. He is equally happy
working with English or Scottish social dance, but has been known to dabble in American,
Irish and even Australian when the occasion demands. Tom has worked with many bands,
